Phil Robertson Suspended from Duck Dynasty for "Anti-Gay" Remarks

Recommended Posts

Why should there be?  Should A&E expect him or anyone to not believe what they actually believe?  That would really be silly.

Believe?  Nope.  But to be doing an interview to promote the show, he has to follow company rules and discussion issues like this is generally something that can get any employee in trouble.

A&E decided to affiliate themselves with Phil with full knowledge of his views. This is no surprise to anyone. A&E only has a problem with it now because they are getting pressure. So instead of standing behind their original decision, they have decided to backpedal.

This would be like a company hiring somebody with full knowledge they had a DUI. Then when word gets out they had a DUI, they decide to fire them. The company needs to be responsible for their initial decision. This is no fault of the employee since there was full disclosure.

Also, Phil has been preaching his anti-gay views since the 90's. Because of his views, he's been invited to preach at 100's of events. There are even videos of his preachings online. So why wasn't the gay community up in arms when the show first aired? I find their timing a bit odd.

That is all great Mancini, but I guarantee you that it is in the Duck's contracts that there are possible repercussions if they do or say anything that puts A&E in a bad light.  This is standard HR stuff.  So you have a guy who is promoting his show in an interview that led to controversy.  Now he has to deal with the repercussions.  That is really all there is to this situation.

This isn't new.  Controversial statements have led to the firings of people like Howard Stern to Imus to Rush.

Phil isn't the same as Stern or Imus. They are in the media and have been in trouble with the FCC. Their jobs rely on ratings and controversy drives ratings. Stern now can do and say whatever he wants. Phil also wouldn't sign a contract that has verbiage that would jeopardize his personal beliefs. He doesn't need A&E or Duck Dynasty to live a wealthy/happy life.
