I don't like what the guy said.  I don't watch the program and most likely never will.  Suspending him is an empty gesture on A & E's part as I understand that the filming of this season is all but over.  Hypocrisy vs hypocrisy.

That is what is funny to me.  I've never once watched the show.  I don't hunt and am not a redneck so it really isn't interesting to me.  I also think he could have said what he said differently and still been just as clear.  I also do not think for one second this is a freedom of speech issue and I do believe A&E has every right to suspend him if they wish.

 

All that being said, the terminology and hyperbole being tossed around in here regarding his opinions make me believe that folks these days aren't nearly as open minded as they think they are and that this society isn't nearly as pluralistic as it advertises itself to be.

'Duck Dynasty': Phil Robertson anti-gay sermon surfaces

 

 

The sermon in the video drew attention in August for Robertson's condemnation of abortion. But the gay remarks were largely overlooked.  The video was scrutinized anew after Robertson's remarks to GQ.

That video and sermon has been around for a long time.  It's no secret.  A&E was well aware of it and other sermons he has preached.

There is a huge difference between what this guy has said in the past and what he has said while promoting the show and being under contract with A&E.

I am the unpleasant one because I think using religion as an excuse to showcase ignorance and hatred is wrong, not the person who decides to defense said person.
