Phil Robertson Suspended from Duck Dynasty for "Anti-Gay" Remarks

Recommended Posts

What they said - "His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely."

What they meant - "And we are such strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community, that we're moving full steam ahead with a weekend of DD marathons and 12 1/2 hours of DD Christmas goodies.  You're welcome LGBT community.  Sincerely, Your Champions"

Do you think he eats pork?

Looks to me in a lot of pictures he is wearing mixed cloth.

My favorite thing about all of these evangelicals is they just pick and choose the things in the bible they want to use to portray themselves as better than everyone else and conveniently ignore the parts that would make their life more difficult.

Nate is pulling out the old atheist handbook of miscreant useage of out of context scripture.  You guys need new material.

He was asked what he considers sin. He's not going to answer what the world knows is sin. Those things you mentioned are pretty much universally condemned so no need to bring them up. According to his beliefs, that's what he considers one of many sins.

Yes. He chose the one he knew, or certainly should have known, would stir the pot. Whatever his agenda may be this was not an off the cuff comment intended to demonstrate his Christian morals.

Controversy helps ratings... especially reality TV. Geoff brings up a valid point. A&E have countless hours of footage. They could have spent the money to have Phil edited out most of the marathon.

Or they could spend no money at all, dump the DD marathon and run a Shipping Wars or Storage Wars marathon.

During the time of the bible bestiality was also an issue.  So was sex outside of marriage.

Using a 2000+ year old doctrine as scripture is the same as using a 250+ year old constitution as law.

The bible also says beating your wife and selling your kids to slavery is ok.  It also says if you are a child and your parents beat you, you must still obey your parents.  It also says that women cannot be a part of the church.

Like everything, people adapt to cultural change.  Religion is just slow to do it.

Filled with hate.

LOL. There is more hate from people on A&E's side in this thread directed towards those that support the Ducks, than there was in Phil's entire dialogue.

BTW the rest of the Duck family should give A&E the bird and walk away.

Another network will pick them up, let them say whatever the f*** they want, and probably pay them just as much as well.

It's apparent that if A&E is so knee jerky about something so dumb they really don't care or respect the people in the show at all.

During the time of the bible bestiality was also an issue.  It's still against the law today.  So was sex outside of marriage.   Yeah, so stupid to think unwanted pregnancies would be an issue.

Using a 2000+ year old doctrine as scripture is the same as using a 250+ year old constitution as law.

The bible also says beating your wife and selling your kids to slavery is ok.   It also says if you are a child and your parents beat you, you must still obey your parents .  It also says that women cannot be a part of the church.   All four of these examples are patently false and shows a complete lack of knowledge of scripture.  Again, you guys need a new handbook.

Like everything, people adapt to cultural change.  Religion is just slow to do it.

The Bible on husbands and wives:

You cry out, “Why doesn’t the Lord accept my worship?” I’ll tell you why! Because the Lord witnessed the vows you and your wife made when you were young. But you have been unfaithful to her, though she remained your faithful partner, the wife of your marriage vows. Didn’t the Lord make you one with your wife? In body and spirit you are his. And what does he want? Godly children from your union. So guard your heart; remain loyal to the wife of your youth. “For I hate divorce!” says the Lord, the God of Israel. “To divorce your wife is to overwhelm her with cruelty,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “So guard your heart; do not be unfaithful to your wife.” (Malachi 2:14-16)

For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. And we are members of his body. As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. (Ephesians 5:25-33)

You have captured my heart,
    my treasure, my bride.
You hold it hostage with one glance of your eyes,
with a single jewel of your necklace.
Your love delights me,
    my treasure, my bride.
Your love is better than wine,
your perfume more fragrant than spices. (Song of Solomon 4:9-10)

His comments about black people enjoying segregation are awful.

You want to know what's awful? In this day and age of vulgarity, profanity, pornography, pretty much anything goes, and kids are seeing stuff at a younger and younger age, and people don't really seem to be up in arms about that. Then some old dude makes a couple comments about personal life experiences and his perspective on a few things, and people get uptight and angry like he's personally hanging their gay and black relatives out in the marshes that surround his backyard.

The holier than thou attitude is astonishing.
