Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto called Wednesday a "relatively quiet day" and said that the chances he signs a free agent before the Winter Meetings wrap up Thursday morning are "highly unlikely."

Is there any interest in Jason Kubel? He had a poor season in. '13, but has been fairly productive over his career. He is ten yeas younger than Ibanez and probably can be signed cheap.

Kubel is a great buy low guy. 

 

Obviously you can't discredit what happened last year. His K% jumped from 26.4 to 31.7. His contact% dropped from 73.5 to 70.1%. His zone contact% dropped from 81.9 to 76.4. So obviously those are alarming signs but he's a year removed from posting a 116 wRC+ and a .506 SLG%. 

 

I would be happy with signing him on a cheap 1 year deal.

agree.  seems like he's got more upside than ibanez who is going to bottom out any time.  Don't really love any of the option available really.

I don't think trying to squeeze the last 400 good plate appearances out of Ibanez is all that bad but Kubel may be the more attractive option. 

 

Either way, Green and whoever we sign should provide plenty of offense from the DH to make it an above average spot for us.

No Ervin Santana. No Ubaldo Jimenez. No Kendrys Morales. No Shin-Soo Choo.
