I think in a perfect world Skaggs starts in Salt Lake and is your first guy up WHEN someone gets hurt, so I would definitely like to add another starter.

Why did Skaggs lose velocity on his fastball.

 

No clue, just gotta hope whatever it was it was just a little blip on the radar. Madison Bumgarner had a big velocity spike one year and didn't look good. Raised a ton of concerns regarding his future.....obviously he's turned out fine since then and is now one of the top arms and top assets currently in MLB

When the hell was he throwing hard enough where his FB was the feature pitch?

Last year his FB was sitting at 89.5 according to PITCHf/x.

Morales and Vargas were both impeding FA, he's currently a free agent, but was tendered a qualifying offer. Plus he wants to be a 1st baseman, not a DH.

I would not be fine with that pitching staff come opening day. Way too many question marks. One of those guys is not starting quality, and we'd need another sure thing veteran in there as well.

I would not mind Garza at a Wilson type contract. 5 years/80-85m with an option at the end of it.

Don't know a lot about Santiago, and don't know the prospect we're giving up, but this trade looks pretty good so far. It's the right idea for sure. Santiago's walks are high, but he's still young and it's his relief appearances that bring down his overall k/bb ratio, so that's encouraging. Hopefully Skaggs turns it around.

Trading Trumbo's a huge mistake, 30 home run/100 RBI guys don't grow on trees.  Trumbo's a hometown guy too and would have stayed here.  This has been one of the most poorly run big budget organizations in baseball in the last few years.
