Santana wanting 20 million a year is ridiculous enough, but Nolasco wanting 16 million per is absurd beyond belief. He's had 1 truly good season his entire career and that was 6 years ago. He is the definition of mediocrity and anyone who gives him more than 10 million a year is retarded.

Wouldn't be surprised if both got deals similar to what Anibal Sanchez got. Price of pitching continues to skyrocket each offseason. More reason the Halos will need to address their SP needs via trade and via dumpster diving for the types who have a ton of warts(bad performance/down year, injury, etc).

With this news, I can't believe the angels aren't going to give Vargas a qualifying offer. Even if he accepts it'll be a good deal.

Eventually there's going to be a blow-back.  It's no secret that pitching, pitching and pitching are the keys to a successful team.  But recently, we're seeing a lot of young, prospect pitchers come in and make a greater impact than the traditional, veteran inning eaters.  It used to be the other way around.

 

I think that's what teams will begin valuing more and more.  Controllable young pitching (if they don't do so already).  Teams will come to the realization that no one goes to the World Series because they paid a pitcher with a career 4.20 ERA 18 million a year.  Such an emphasis will cause the pendulum on free agent pitching prices to swing toward more of a team friendly direction.

 

I'm not saying the price of dependable early 30's starting pitchers will become a bargain, but I do think you'll at least see a 5-year period where prices stop rising as much as they have lately.
