Quite don't understand the original question since most states already give rights to 18+ to own a guy. Unless they mean if you turned 18, a gun was sitting in your mailbox free of charge.

- Suicides rates go up

- Gun related deaths go up (accidental or crime related)

- Petty crime may go down, but death rates will go up. So less small robbery, more dead people.

- Domestic crime will skyrocket.

- Mass murder crime will not be affected. These people have already written themselves off as dead, so being shot isn't a deterrent. They will just find ways to be more prepared and/or change tactics. Get more powerful guns, bullet proof vests, victims that don't carry guns (ie, schools), etc.

-As an example, let's revisit the mass murder at the Movie theater. A shooter walks into a dim theater shooting up people. A majority of people are also carrying a gun. Without being able to get a clear shot because of smoke and dim lighting, 15 people shoot back. People fleeing the theater are now running and ducking between a gun fight between 16 people, leading to more casualties. Other people want to join the gunfight but now can't identify the shooter since there are now 16 people shooting, so they make their best guess of their target. Police arrive but cannot enter the theater because of heavy gunfire. Cops gather contradicting information from confused witnesses of who, and how many shooters are the threat. Gun shots finally cease and police are now walking into theater with many more unknowns.

Then the theater has to issue refunds to the survivors for missing the ending of the movie.

That definitely is not what happened at Aurora. The cops couldn't enter at first because of the smoke. They had Holmes minutes after they arrived at the theatre because he was already outside.

You are right, that isn't what happened because there was only 1 shooter. But if everyone had guns, there would have been a gun battle, thus creating confusion and more collateral damage. He was inside the theater for about 10 minutes. But with the gas and smoke in the theater, people could have been shooting at one another thinking they are attacking the suspect. People in the theater didn't know if there were 1 or 10 shooters.

What if everyone in the theater starting chucking hatchets at each other?

Oh whoops, I missed the hypothetical part of it.

Gun advocates believe that Holmes would have been scared out of his mind to enter a movie theater with an assault rifle, hand grenades and more ammunition than every person in the theater with hand guns combined. He would have just stayed home, nuked some top ramen and played COD instead.

Guns for everyone is a silly idea.

-Many people could not qualify to obtain a CCW

-Many people do not want to have guns

I think a balance between common-sense gun-violence laws and number of CCW permits is the solution.  Right now, the government is trying to ban guns while at the same time lowering the number of Police Officers on the streets through cost-saving (Municipal governments don't have money for new hires).  Add to this the fact that they are emptying jails to save money, and I think we're headed for a serious violent-crime spike in the near future.

The IDEA of possibly running-into a victim who is CCW, is a deterrent.

The Jon Lott article is interesting not in it's simple cause and effect conclusions but the pushback by those that can't disprove his data and so they simply argue it is inconclusive even though they can't find any other reason for a lowering in crime rate.

It is like a ship taking on water out on open seas. The Captain wants the leaks plugged but there is not enough mapower and resources to do the job. When an engineer creates a bilge pump out of parts available that stops the water from rising, even reduces slightly the water already in the ship, the Captain grumbles the leaks were not fixed.

The TSA should at least have stun guns and mace. They are defenseless to a attack.

Usually there is at least one armed LAX Police Officer standing-watch at the checkpoints.  I'm sure that the quick response from these Officers is what stopped this attack from being MUCH worse.
