Michael Wacha and Sonny Gray

So, if we had not signed Pujols after 2011 (Wacha being selected by St.L. with our 1st 2012 pick), and drafted Sonny Gray instead of Cron, we could have had a 2014 rotation of:   Weaver, Wilson, Wacha, Gray, and Richards.    And we still don't know how Pujols will ever fare again.

Assuming the Angels would have drafted Wacha, of course. And that he would have developed just as well in their organization.

There is something to be said for who coaches the pitchers in the minors.

Some sort of disconnect seems to exist.

Mike Morin is managing to rise above it though just 16 months after being selected.   He may be ready to start 2014 up here.

As for Pujols, we do know he'll be getting older and probably slower.

I'm ready to predict this 2014 for Pujols:  25 HRs, 80 rbis, .270 BA.

And that's if he even plays 140-150 games.

 

Color me EXTREMELY skeptical about Pujols' future as a hitter.

True, I forgot about Wilson costing us the 2nd round pick because Pujols cost us the 1st round pick.

 

At least Wilson is holding up his end of the deal, unlike Pujols.

 

I guess if we were in true rebuild mode after 2011, neither Pujols nor Wilson may have been signed and Wacha would have been a Halo, if they chose to select him.

So Corbin and Segura are All-Stars, Skaggs looks solid, Chatwood just put up a good season in Coors Field, and Sean-Rod is a nice role player for Tampa Bay. Now the guy the Cardinals took with our pick might be a stud.

Oh and Mike Napoli and John Lackey play for the Red Sox and they're probably going to face the Dodgers in the World Series.

I wish we would have sucked in 2005 so we could have drafted longoria, kershaw, lincecum,  or sherzer in 2006.
