Obamacare/Trumpcare Horror Stories

Recommended Posts

I have been informed I qualify for a subsidy. With this subsidy, I will pay $10 less than what I was paying before the ACA took away the insurance I liked but couldn't keep. It has taken me years to get to this point. My previous two years of ACA insurance were terrible...misdiagnosis...delayed diagnosis...waiting months at a time for authorizations to go to specialists who were bottom of the barrel and could not have cared less. (One doctor literally shrugged looking at me and said, "You're a mystery man." Said he'd send a report to my dermatologist. I asked him what it would say since he didn't have a conclusion. The doctor shrugged again, "I'll tell them you're a mystery man.")

Unfortunately, I will be paying quite a bit more out of pocket for my new insurance, which is an HMO (I had PPO when I was able to pick the insurance I liked but was lied to about being able to keep).

My prescriptions will cost alot more. X-rays: more. MRI: more. My deductible is quite a bit higher too.

But, I will be paying approximately $120 less a year than my pre-ACA insurance.

Despite all this, I think there are some great things with the ACA and though it requires a major overhaul, it can be repaired. The key will be to keep it non-partisan. So, it won't get fixed. Too many egos on either side on the line here.

for all the clamoring about "but there's 20 million americans who are now insured", something that's indeed very good, it seems like there are that many people who have been negatively affected by obamacare and have been in DR's shoes - either losing their coverage or having their prices skyrocket. but in the media, you never hear about this. it's always and only about how many now have coverage, as if that's the only thing that matters or the only impact the ACA has had.

if your government requires you to buy something with the threat of a fine if you don't, of course that number will increase. if they required everyone to own a set of wind chimes, I guarantee you wind chime ownership would increase.

let's not kid ourselves into thinking everyone bought health insurance because it's such a wonderful, affordable policy.

concur with you. while i'm glad more people are covered, i loathe that it was done under such a horrible threat, and that the SCOTUS said it was a merely tax for those that didn't comply. that's some serious BS. what kind of governing is that? and how is that constitutional in even the remotest way?

crap, now @ELEVEN is going to want wind chimes.

I'm in an HMO like DowningRules. The primary care doctor is the gatekeeper, and the idea is to cut down on doctor visits to specialists.

I have arthritis in the fingers and hands, and my primary care doctor won't refer me to a specialist. He says there's nothing I can do about it and it's "age related". He said to take a Tylenol. The arthritis is getting worse in a couple fingers. The joint by the fingertip is swollen and hurts most of the time.

Now a PPO would let me go to any doctor I wanted, but the premium costs a small fortune. So I'm stuck. I had a PPO before Obamacare, but Anthem cancelled my policy.

"If you like your plan, you can keep it", remember that big fat lie?

I have a PPO.  Had it before the black, had it during the black, I assume I'll have it during the orange.

Nothing changed.  Except Blue Cross trying to raise my rates and getting nailed and having to send me a fat check.  Thanks Black!

I figured you as an HMO kind of guy.

This wasn't a vote to repeal Obamacare, it was to setup the reforms to allow Trump to repeal it when he gets sworn in. Do you guys read the articles? The democrats wasted time trying to obstruct the votes.

Also it appears these "vote-o-ramas" are common.

lol

Ok, libs , if you're going to make it this easy for the next 4 years just tell us all now so we can better utilize our time. You know, like perhaps posting about the players in our farm system or the wonder that is our weather.
