WTF is with this bleeping weather?

That's funny, I was just talking to someone else here that asked me about Southgate Brewing.

The beer and food are really good...but like so many newer places, they have bare floors and hard walls that make the place pretty noisy when it's busy, which is most of the time. They are good people, and I've worked with the brew master there on some recipes and specialty malts. Stop and get a couple of growlers to take to the cabin, or wherever you are staying.

Oh yeah, the valley has snow on the ground, and although I haven't been over to bass lake since summer, I'm pretty sure there is at least some snow there too. Roads should be clear, though. There are a couple more fronts coming through next week too, and snow levels have been down around 3500-4000.

Carry chains. You may not need to put them on, but you want to have them in your vehicle for CHP, .

Homebrewer, I'll be up in the Bass Lake area for New Years weekend, is there snow on the ground up there or in Yosemite Valley? But most importantly, how's the brewery there in Oakhurst?

I love the Oakhurst/Bass Lake area.  Shaver and Huntington are awesome as well.

Their beer selection looks limited, although that's only me looking on their website. Maybe they have more specialty or seasonals not listed.  Noise is good since my kids will be in tow and they make plenty as is.  Growlers are a good call.

Everything is 'a little limited" up in these parts! It's what you sacrifice for some wide open spaces and a slower pace.

That's why I got back into brewing after moving up here full time.

If you want stuff up here, you pretty much need to do it yourself.

If you want to camp up there at the hot springs (the cabins are great but it can get a little spendy with 3 day minimums)

Take a look at this page and make reservations as soon as possible when they open for reservations.

It'll  be a nice change for you, if you've been camping up in the park (Yosemite)

....and a casino that's closed because the Indians were fighting over it, at gunpoint (seriously)and the government has found all kinds of suspicious and illegal financial activity connected to it.

Actually... the casino is technically in Coarsegold..

But yeah...Oakhurst is really just kind of funky in a lot of ways, and there really isn't anything much there.
