When they're having heat waves in Camarillo, you know things are not quite right.

For those of you worried about El Niño, the phenomenon has nothing to do with the actual weather. It's the warming of the waters off the coast of Peru. That leads to increased subtropical moisture here. Increased moisture does not cause rain. There needs to be increased dynamics in the upper atmosphere (in other words low pressure systems). October and even for most of November the jet stream is perched north of us... So there are no low pressure systems that drop this far south yet.

Long story short, it's far too early to be doubtful of a rainy winter. Particularly if you compare it to the 97-98 El Niño winter where most of the rain came in December, January, and February.

With that being said, ahhhh the sky is falling! NOAA sucks and meteorology sucks! Am I doing this right AO?

Nights have been extremely warm and uncomfortable for some time now. Strange for the middle of October.

 

A record high minimum temperature of 76 degrees was set at
