WTF is with this bleeping weather?

Recommended Posts

3+ inches up here from Fri night to Sun morn...then light drizzle most of the day Sun.

Once again the rain that you SoCal folks were supposed to get wound up here?

I did see that Santa Anita Derby was run in the mud, so you guys must have gotten some precip.

I blame AO for all this damn wind we are getting.  Oh and I also blame AO for this.

El Nino To Pave Way For La Nina, Setting Major Shift In Weather Patterns

It's going to be a hot dry summer.

Then again, these same weathermen predicted a really wet wet El Nino winter, and it was opposite.  So we'll probably see snow in the summer.

A Quiet Revolution in Weather Forecasting

The game may soon change with the emergence of commercial weather satellites, which embody Moore’s Law in being smaller, faster, and cheaper.

Small, relatively cheap and quickly upgradable microsatellites could soon make weather prediction far more reliable

The wake-up call that led to the recent NOAA supercomputer upgrade was when the European weather model correctly predicted the storm track of Hurricane Sandy, better than the US model. Hurricane Sandy was the deadliest hurricane in the northeastern United States in 40 years and the second-costliest in the nation's history.

Well, well...had to look around for this thread. First time it's been off the front page for months.

Anyhow...there's some late summer-like weather moving into Ca in late spring. Unstable and convective low with considerable moisture will have a good chance of T-storms throughout central and socal over the next several days...especially in the mountains and foothills.

From NOAA..

.SYNOPSIS...

AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL APPROACH CENTRAL CALIFORNIA TODAY AND

THEN MOVE ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY. THIS

SYSTEM WILL BRING THE THREAT OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO MUCH OF

THE REGION ALONG WITH COOLER TEMPERATURES.

.DISCUSSION...

SATELLITE IMAGES SHOW AN UPPER LOW OFF THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA

COAST. MODERATE SOUTH WINDS AT 50KTS BRINGING AN INCREASE OF MID

TO UPPER LEVEL MOISTURE INTO CENTRAL CALIFORNIA. IR IMAGES SHOW

RAPIDLY COOLING TOPS OVER THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COAST DUE TO WIND

SPEED MAX AND DIVERGENCE ALOFT. SATELLITE ESTIMATES OF

PRECIPITABLE WATER RUNNING NEAR 150 PERCENT OF NORMAL.
