WTF is with this bleeping weather?

Recommended Posts

From the US Gov't Drought Monitor Agency today..

A plethora of Pacific storms and moisture slammed into California and most of the West, dumping copious amounts of precipitation on the northern two-thirds of the state and Sierra Nevada. This very wet week maintained the great start to the Water Year (since Oct. 1) across the West where NRCS SNOTEL basin average precipitation was above or much above normal at nearly every major basin while basin average snow water content was at or above normal in most Western basins. With more than a foot of precipitation falling on the Sierra Nevada (locally 20.7 inches at Strawberry Valley, CA), most major reservoirs were at or above its Jan. 10 historical average, USGS monitored streams were at near or record high flows, Jan. 10 state snow water content was at 135%, and the Northern Sierra 8-station, San Joaquin 5-station, and Tulare Basin 6-station precipitation indices topped their wettest previous year as of Jan. 10. Accordingly, major drought improvements were made not only to California but at many areas of the West, including parts of Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. There were a few areas in southern California, however, that have yet to receive a bountiful Water Year and see any hydrologic improvements, so no changes were made there.

I took a really long shower this morning after hearing this on the news..

Well, I guess it's better than living in Fargo.

1 degree right now. One.

Going down to minus-25 tonight.

wife was watching the news before obama's farewell speech. one of the reporters there in chicago said it was 0 degrees, but with the wind chill it felt like -0.

who knew that was even a thing.

That happened to my family in Spokane back in 96. They were without power for 2 weeks.

Really hoping you don't have to deal with that again. Midwest looks treacherous right now.

We have school today for the first time since Friday, and it's a 2-hour late start because all of the snow on the roads has been compacted to ice, and it's 4 degrees out.

None of it will melt because the hi temp through next Tue is 12 degrees. Next week, we're expect a lot of freezing rain in the mornings, so we might end up with power losses, but it's also going to get in the 40s during the day starting next Wed. Flooding is going to be unpleasant. My apartment parking lot has 10-foot mountains of snow all over the place.

Normally I'd just say screw it, shelter my car as well as possible, and just hunker down for the weekend. But I'm going to the Chiefs game with a bunch of people Sunday. It's gonna be an adventure.

Did anyone catch the video of the Fed-Ex truck sliding on ice thru Donner Pass? That guy is a driver! The Sully Sullenburger of trucking.

I did not realize until the end that it was a tandem trailer. Awesome job.

AO, have you ever had an erection that has lasted as long as this weather induced hard on?

By the way, this is all your fault.

Only when I'm with Kate Beckensale

On the bright side, I created an epic thread, granted I haven't contributed nearly as much to it over the past few months.

Frances McDormand is freezing her butt off as we speak.

The folks in Truckee have received SEVENTY inches of snow already this month.   Don't think much of it will melt in the next several days unfortunately, as highs will generally be in the 30s.    Skiers are no doubt ecstatic.

yeah, my friends with places up there are loving it. most of them went up before the storm came to avoid the scary drive. ive done that drive and gotten caught in a storm (granted nothing compared to this storm), its really no fun to sit for hours when they block off the road (luckily we had booze to pass the time). took me 12 hours to get up there that time (usually takes about 3 with no snow).

im gonna head up in a couple weeks, super excited.

0.27 inches away from our monthly normal.  I think this weekend should get us way over.  Way to go Trump for solving our drought.

Update for Central O.C.:   Friday, expecting between 1-2 inches of rain     Sunday, expecting between 1-2 inches of rain

Even I will be glad for the days of sunshine, once that rain has fallen.    That should put the area into double digits for the October-September year, a first since 2010-11.
