WTF is with this bleeping weather?

Recommended Posts

Pushing triple digits around here the last few days...pretty early for these parts too..

Did some hiking up in "The Park" last week before the post Memorial Day crowds invaded Yosemite. (see random pics)

Glad I did it then, because it's been mid to upper 90's up there this week.

LOTS of water going over all the falls this year.

Speaking of fire season...It's been HOT here for the last 10 days...

and here we go.

12:50pm - All roads leading to the fire area are CLOSED at this time. This includes: Wild Dove Rd at Jerseydale Rd, Round Tree Sadle Rd, Jerseydale Helipad & several Forest Service Roads.

Ever burn a dried out Christmas tree?

How prevalent are the dead trees from bark beetles? I've heard that they are becoming an epidemic and it's extremely difficult to eradicate them.

Very prevalent and very dangerous.  It's not really the beetles that are the problem tho..they are always in the eco-system. The problem has been the prolonged drought that weakened the trees enough that the beetles could get in and kill the trees. A healthy tree can withstand the beetles, but a weak tree can't.

The real problem is getting to millions of trees, cutting them down, and then finding something to do with all that wood, much of which is useless for lumber. It's a major problem up here, that's getting lots of attention and discussion.

I "liked" that post but I don't like the fact that there is a fire near you. I just like the updates. Where are you getting those from? Cal Fire?

From the locals, the scanner, and a twitter feed here:

One year on New Year's Eve a buddy and I took some Christmas trees that were put outside for trash pickup and laid them across the street, then ignited them. Scared the crap out of us. They went up as fast as flash paper.
