Greatest American Band?

The Beatles, The Stones. The Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc. All English. Is there any American band that can even compare?

Eagles or Journey?

 

If you look at heavy metal or grunge, then it's mostly US.

I can't stand Journey and I've always considered the Eagles average.

 

What about The Doors? I've always considered them equal to the bands you mentioned.

Depends on what the criteria is. Is it overall success or current popularity? Bands like Metallica have had a lot of sustained success that many bands look to as influential. There have been many good ones but they haven't hung around to long. I would say The Doors have had a relative timeless sound. Run DMC and Beastie Boys maybe? Not sure if rap counts as a band.

Depends on what you mean by "greatest". Tbh, Metallica fits the bill. Regardless of what you think of their recent output, they are still one of the biggest and most influential bands of all time.

I agree with these with the exception of Nirvana. They really were a one album wonder. Sure they were very influential at the time but it was a very small sample size.

Beach Boys invented a complete style.  Made one of the most critically acclaimed albums of all time (Pet Sounds).  It influenced the Beatles' Sgt Pepper and Revolver.

 

When you are inventing actual musical styles, you go a long way in my book.

 

 

 

Bruce Springsteen and E Street Ban was insanely popular 1984-1987, and have produced an amazing body of work.
