The Dodgers

We didn't spend enough.  Our payroll this year = $140M, Dodger payroll = $261M.  That's a good starting pitcher, 4 bullpen arms, someone to tell Dipoto what to do, a body guard for Moreno, a telephone system that doesn't work when calling Arizona or Colorado, and a one way ticket to somewhere for Blanton.

They have an incredible pitching staff, among other things. Imagine having pitching rotation of Kershaw, Ryu, and Greinke. It shouldn't surprise anyone that the Doyyers are doing so well.

Unlike the halos, they have pitching.

Even though they have spent an ungodly amount of money, they have kept their farm system intact.

Not that optimism is en vogue around here but when you look at their team, the Halos could put together something similar next year if they make some solid moves.

The Halos will never have a Kershaw, but if you look at the numbers, the addition of a legit #2, a #4 and re-signing Vargas could make them pretty solid.  Even if they don't get a #4 and left Richards in the rotation, I think they could be at least halfway decent.

Weaver and Wilson are close to Greinke and Ryu.

If we got a #2, he'd be a pretty good distance from Kershaw but still pretty solid

Vargas and Richards or a solid #4 would be on par with Nolasco and Capuano

On offense, they are getting obvious production from Puig, but we have Trout

The big key for them has actually been Ramirez.  One of Pujols or Hamilton would have to step up.

The other could easily replicate what AGon is doing.

The rest of their offense hasn't been anything special.  Easily something the rest of the halos could replicate (and have) even if Trumbo, Howie and Bourjos were traded.

The pen is the biggest difference, but I think that is the are we could make up the most ground in a short time with a trade and a couple of signings.

I know, it's unlikely for all this stuff to come together, but I think we are all generally assuming that this team is dead man walking at this point and it's not like we can get rid of any payroll and start over any time soon so we might as well focus on what's possible even though it's not probable.

Exactly, why does this board keep bringing up the Dodgers?

Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to click on threads you don't like. Unless I'm wrong?
