Congrats to Joe Blanton

I honestly don't know what Jerry expected with this signing. I guess he thought with Angels Stadium being a pitcher's park and the Angel's "great" outfield defense that he could be a solid number 5 and innings eater. I guess he didn't calculate for the fact that the outfielders can't catch 430 foot moonshots and rocket line drives in the gap. He has allowed 12.20 hits per 9 innings, which is absolutely ridiculous.

It's not all his fault. Scioscia had nobody warming in the bullpen as Blanton was struggling out there.

He should have had a very short leash on him with the Angels down by only two runs.

It's all his fault. He shouldn't have shook off Conger and grooved the next pitch. At this point they should put shock collars on Blanton and Frieri that go off every time they attempt to shake off the catcher. Don't think, just pitch.

When he kept shaking off Conger and then threw a fastball right down the middle to Carter, who then hit the 3-run HR, that was the worst pitching I've ever seen. Rojas even commented on it. He said something like, "He shook off every pitch and then threw him a fast ball right down the middle--which is the only pitch Carter can hit." Blanton is one of the worst pitchers I've ever seen. It's sickening that he's making 7mil dollars this season.

Same call Terry and Mark made on the radio broadcast.

This is probably dead on. He believed that Blanton would be better in this park. Like you said, though, if the ball goes 430 feet, it really doesn't matter how good your outfielders are.

I don't know what blantons post-baseball career plans are, but if he's savvy enough to finagle $15 mil out of the Halos, he'll probably do alright for himself.

I say we cut him loose and find out just what those plans are.
