The WTF Call of the Game

Umpires can suck at times and some can suck all game but at least once a game there is a call so bad it has to be  congratulated for being the worst of the game.

This is today's entry. It was so far outside it would have hit a left handed batter.

We need Robo Umps!

I said that, but we should have this Hall of Shame for every game when the umpire truly deserves recognition. The Angels don't play until Friday,  I'm sure there is going to be another WTF call to post then.

Maybe that ump got nostalgic for the 90s when nothing above the belt ever got called a strike but you could creep out toward that batters box and get calls especially if that's your arm side

Normally the crowd murmur drowns out the individual voices but today, with so few in the stands, you could clearly hear fans near the dugout calling out the umpire and he kept glaring at the dugout thinking it came from there. It got to the point Washington had to go out and tell the ump it wasn't the bench. But some of it was.

I have some good news Blarg.  You don’t have to wait until Friday as the Angels play tonight.

I’m much more bothered by “missed calls” off the plate, rather than high or low calls, since we have no idea how accurate one “k-zone” is compared to the MLB strike zone.

One of the worst all time called ball/strike games I've ever seen. 

You can live with consistent close marginal calls, but last night was ridiculous. 

Are umps ever shown video of their games or blatant mistakes? 

Do these umps ever get reprimanded, fined, fired? This guy better not be anywhere near a playoff game.

Wondering if 20/20 vision is mandatory and how often this is checked. Vision can change suddenly by a number of things. 
The MLB is not happy about the minor league auto ball/strike system results. It seems to favor the  pitching  outcomes. This is probably one reason for the delay. They are looking to manipulate this  outcome somehow. Just implement a challenge system but then again it slows thing down. Which Is a small sacrifice. Accuracy with 100 mph+  with vertical and horizontal movement is next to impossible.

While they are at it, they need a real definition of a check swing.  They have cameras for the foul lines, why not have one set for the front of the plate? The bat crossed that line, it is a swing.
