Unbelievable. USC plays the 2 minute drill perfectly and LSU makes a fatal mistake of targeting putting the ball inside the 20 with 13 seconds left.

USC runs one play, looked like a run play to center the ball for a field goal and goes all the way for the TD. LSU with 8 seconds left throws an interception.

27-20 USC wins.

A few good games last weekend.

Georgia just crushed Clemson and looks the part of the favorite to win the National Championship.  Yes it’s early, but damn….that was a big bully beat down.

Notre Dame played a great game against Texas A&M at Kyle Field at night.  As hostile as it gets.  A defensive struggle with both teams having great defenses.  Good, old school football game.

USC not only has a good QB in Miller Moss, they may have found a defense AND a Defensive Coordinator who can help them.  Yep, it’s week 1 and the games are gonna get tougher SC.  Talk to me when you’re playing B1G 10 football in December.

FSU???  Holy smokes they suck right now

Florida State has joined New Mexico at 0-2 for the season.  They were 13-0 during the regular season a year ago, and they have been totally handled by Georgia Tech and Boston College. Tonight's game was the shocker. BC was less than great last season, and the game was in Tallahassee.

Three things that jumped out at me from the box score: FSU was 3/14 on third down conversions, had 21 yards rushing, and BC had the ball for more than 39 of the 60 minutes.

Florida's Billy Napier has to be a dead man walking. After a second lifeless blowout loss (both at home, this one to a first-year head coach and a freshman QB in his first start). It has gotten so bad that the crowd at Florida Field booed an ad on the message board showing the head coach making an anti-alcoholism announcement.

Napier is three years in. He boldly stated before the season that this was his best team. On the field, it looks like his worst. There were about 100 recruits in the stands for the Miami game. Canes players were tellling them after the game, "Come to Miami."

A blogger last night went over a list of about a dozen players who left the program through the portal, and their statistics so far this year. Some were not starting at Florida. Alll have become major contributors where they landed. The biggest loss by far was Trevor Etienne, brother of current Jacksonville and former Clemson RB Travis Etienne. He transferred to Georgia where he is the #1 back. He was #2 at Florida behind Montrell Johnson, a decent back but not one who has Etienne's elusiveness and speed.

This all points to poor coaching and player development along  with a failure to adequately recruit along both the offensive and defensive lines., Many of the players who transferred did so for better development, getting out while they still had NFL draft stock.

This has effects above and beyond the team. I run football watch parties for the Las Vegas Gator Club (I am a founding member and past president). Attendance is pretty much nonexistent. Our leadership decided not to hold a watch party for the Mississippi State game next weekend. Attendance is traditionally low for games with a 9 AM PT kickoff time anyway, and since our crowds so far have been in the low single digits, it seemed the only reasonable move. Last week was the 20th anniversary of our first watch party. Five people showed up, one less than we had for the first game (which was a 9 AM kickoff,).
