I think some of your numbers are still a bit off.  Ha ha.  I updated the first post.  Ignore the Google Sheet link for now.

What’s off still?

My numbers in the original tweet were off some.

I have the same savings $555,300.

I think you need to fix your total bonus allotment. I have it at $12,990,400. We have the same slot values now, but the total doesn’t line up.

5% bonus overage is $649,520, so total bonus pool is $13,639,920. And they’ve spent $3,260,500.

I took out $150,000 from the bonus pool because they're not signing Gatwood.

They don’t get that money back.

If you don’t sign a player in rounds 11-20, you just lose that money to spend.

I know. That's why I took it out of the bonus pool. You seem to have left it in.

$480,800

$366,100

$286,200

$227,700

Ah, that's my mistake, then. I thought 11-20 also counted. I'll change it in the morning.

Why would guys sign for just $1,000?

We've discussed this elsewhere, but the short answer is that they likely would have gone undrafted if they hadn't agreed ahead of time to a deal like this.  They're all college seniors, so they have no leverage.  If they wanted to, they could decline the offer from the Angels and become free agents as of August 1--but not sure that puts them in any better of a situation than they're in now.  Two of those guys will turn 24 before the baseball season is over, so they're already behind the curve in terms of time.

EDIT: ...and from the Angels standpoint, doing these types of deals allows them to allocate the below-slot savings elsewhere.

Everything should be correct now in the first post.

The Angels are now WAY under their bonus pool allotment. There’s no way TGA should be getting much more than your standard third round bonus.

I think the Angels just won’t be spending much money this draft. That’s all.

If Dylan Johnson got $1.2 million ranked where he was it’s conceivable Alford will get a big chunk of that $2 million

If the 2c,3 &4 guys sign at slot, and the remaining guys at 12-20 all get $150, that wouls leave them with $2,761,800 left to sign TGA.

Taylor Blake Ward said Prager and Johnson are over-slot.

TGA probably gets at least $1.25-$1.5M.

And then maybe they are able to snag a couple of the JC or draft-eligible sophomores with over-slot deals.

I’d be pretty surprised if Prager and Johnson went severely over slot as college juniors when they lose all leverage next season, and Cortez, who was selected before them came in at under slot.

I’m not doubting TBW, but I figured they’d come in right around slot, if not slightly under.

I kinda doubt the draft-eligible sophomores go for over-slot.

Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs was strongly suggesting that Texas A&M had offered Prager $500k just to return to school.
