I still have the OC Register article from when he died. I was a huge Sublime fan and I still listen to 40 oz. every now and then.

Everytime I hear "Waiting for my Ruca" I always flash back to the first time I heard that song, in my buddy's jacked up Bronco sitting in the Taco Bell drive thru. He had a large bass tube, and it was thumping.

 

But yeah, I'll still play a CD every now and then.

I'm one of the only dudes I know that isn't into them. I like a few songs and like playing a few of their bass lines. One of those bands I never got into, but respect their work and understand why others like them.

I'm with you. I'm huge into reggae, punk, etc. but have never really been a fan. Some good tunes, but not mind blowing. Living in Long Beach it is hard to escape them though.

I still listen to their stuff pretty regularly. To me it's aged just fine and reminds me of middle school and high school hanging out with friends and hitting the beach.

I have an old saying: chicks dig Sublime.

I, on the other hand, don't.

There's a lot of music chicks dig that I hate.

 

But I've learned to remember certain parts of songs so I can act like I enjoy them, that way when the song comes on and chicks are around I don't come off as a grumpy old fart .

'Date Rape' was the first song I heard by them and it's the only one I really like. Hipster cred.

I was at Long Beach State, when some teammates started taking me to these backyard parties...  It was '90-'92-ish, and Sublime was starting to draw crowds that were too big for backyards and garages.  They generally played rather boozed-up, but you hear the talent;  those were some good times.

 

Nowadays, you can't usually go a full night without hearing at least one of their songs at the bars in the LBC.  I only own the four-disk collectors set, but I throw-in the dvd when I'm toolin-around in the garage.
