Gameday Thread (5/29/24): Yankees @ Angels: Anderson on the mound

That is exactly the type of BS Soto does.  Last season he was frequently trying to get a time violation on the pitcher by doing the one foot in the batters box thing.

It is just too bad they didn't run him along with Boone.

What was the BS on that play?

Apparently, attempting to get back to a base is now "BS," m0nkey.

In his defense, randazzo was hyping it up too and making it seem like Soto was out there playing hockey.

Yeah, that's a weird call, even if it is the rule.  I'm not sure what Soto is supposed to do there.  I think the announcers are making too big of a deal out of the "hip check" from Soto.  It looked to me like he was just reaching back to get to the base.

it's one of those situations where it's "blame the rulebook, not the umps."

the umps called it correctly.

funny how this issue has come up twice in the last week around MLB, after never seemingly being an issue before.

He was obviously timing his return to the bag to coincide with the catch.  Otherwise why is he just slowly walking back to the bag.

Soto knew exactly what he was doing.

Yeah don’t know why he was so nonchalant about it.

but how’s he supposed to know Neto was going to back up into him? Yankeeswin probably calling Neto bush league and saying he purposely backed into him to get the interference call.

Tyler Anderson has done a good job getting out of "interesting" situations so far.

After that double play, he got the next batter.

After Rizzo prevented the double play, he got the next batter.

Some of the other Angels starters should be taking notes.

When is this Nolan Schanuel in the leadoff idea going away?

Dude isn't getting on bases via the walk like he did last year.

Walked 20 times vs. 19 K’s in ‘23 across 29 games. Just 15 walks vs. 35 K’s across 50 games in 2024

Been asking that for weeks.

If they want to keep him in the line up, fine, but he does not belong in the leadoff spot.

He's also come up in key situations where we need a bat on the ball and he just blows it with a K or piddly grounder that doesn't even advance the runners.

The problem is that they really just don't have a good option for leadoff, unless you put Rengifo there (and, no, I don't think Neto is an option, despite how many times No Roles has posted about it).

Anderson is raising his trade value. YES!

Yeah he clearly didn't have his pinpoint control/command tonight but still battled and gave up just 1 ER in 5 IP.

why isn't Neto a better option than Schanuel?

Because he doesn't get on base much and he strikes out a lot.  Plus, in limited ABs in his career so far as a leadoff hitter, he's hitting .195/.253/.286.
