The Official (2024) Los Angeles Angels Trade Deadline Thread

Recommended Posts

Chayce McDermott is starting for the O's today. He's someone I was hoping the Angels could target in a trade with the O's that would send them Tyler Anderson and Carlos Estevez. Maybe they could get someone back like a Beavers and Norby by sending over a Brandon Drury as well.

I want to see Perry pull off another trade with Baltimore so bad, but it feels less and less likely. I think if they want arms they’ll aim high and go after Crochet/Skubal and Mason Miller or another controllable RP.

Baltimore simply has too many good hitter prospects - they’ll need to part with a couple sooner rather than later - and it makes all the sense in the world for them to cash in on someone like Skubal or Crochet to add to their rotation.

Sort of feels like Brewers are our best matchup for Anderson

Yep. I would love to land Garrett Mitchell & Tyler Black for Tyler Anderson and Taylor Ward.

Yeah I’ve had Milwaukee as Anderson’s destination from the get-go, with Boston after that.

I’ve floated the Garrett Mitchell and Aaron Ashby trade in my head so many times now it’s what I keep defaulting to.

Plus Yelich is hurt so they might be interested in Ward.

Yeah he's back on the IL with the same back injury as earlier in the season.

Recency bias is a big factor. Especially with the immediate present a priority for contending teams. They want to load up and get value from who they acquire as soon as possible. Future control is a bonus that maybe sweetens the pot.

With just a few days to go Estevez and Anderson are trending as well as they could be. Rengifo may have some rust coming off the IL but has been consistent all year. Ward is going in the other direction. Mired in a bad slump. Drury is basically off the radar in terms of desirability unless as a throw in. Pillar has cooled, but has some value.

Detmers has turned into an intriguing project but not likely to help anyone soon. Other pitchers have been a mix. Moore isn't even a throw in of any value. But no one is untouchable other than maybe Soriano and Joyce for upside potential.

I'm off to L.A. till next week for a few days of relaxation starting Thursday so won't have a lot of time to follow things in detail. Hopefully Perry does well enough building the foundation.

The Yelich injury may be worse than originally thought.

Yelich (back) will see a spine specialist Thursday to discuss the next steps in his recovery, with season-ending surgery representing one possibility, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Yelich's on-again, off-again back injury flared up Tuesday and he was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Season-ending surgery would be a worst-case scenario and it's unclear at this point what the likelihood of an operation would be, but that it's even on the table is concerning. At the very least, it would figure to be longer than a minimum stint on the IL for Yelich.

Normally this exact time of year is one of my favorite times to be fully engaged in all the trade talks for all teams, tracking every rumor and mentally getting excited about different trade possibilities.  The actual process over the next X number of days would be really fun.

This is the first year that I can remember ever that I would prefer to just fast forward to the day after the deadline and just see the results.

I still very much care about what happens, but I don’t have the specific interest in following the daily drama of it.

I know it’s just Angel fan fatigue caused by too much frustration for too long.

Who knows, maybe when a couple of things get some traction I will get re-energized to be in the middle of it.  I kind of hope so.

The franchise needs some good news to get out of the rut.

“Let’s just get this over and see what happens” can’t be the mindset this franchise wants fans to be in.

Is Ward’s 5-14 over the past 4 games too little too late to get a decent return in trade?

No because teams don’t look at weeks they look at seasons and award is coming off three consecutive seasons of above average offense.

Plus Ward’s metrics and other data have  been pretty strong consistently for a couple years now, and the 2+ years of control are really valuable. I think he’s still worth a solid return. A team’s Top 10/lower overall Top 100, another prospect a step below that, and a throw-in (lower-level lotto ticket or upper-level depth/high-floor/low-ceiling).

What the Angels really have in their favor this year is that Ward, Rengifo and Estévez are all part of a pretty limited supply pool, and there are a lot of buyers.

Eerily quiet leading up to the deadline which is weird with so many teams that are sellers

The problem is there aren’t many obvious sellers. Lots of teams on the fence. Sellers are holding out for best deals, hoping, with so few Sellers, offers will get better closer to the deadline.
