i wonder what the discussion has been like over the last 12 hours on astroswin/cheat.com and how framber valdez gave up 7 runs and 3 homers in one inning to the angels last night.

Read the replies to this tweet, and you’ll get a sense.

Confidence could be a factor. Maybe in his own ability to make clutch pitches in tough situations. When behind in the count and with men on base he grooves a lot of fat pitches in very hittable zones. Not trusting himself to aim for the corners or lower edge of the strike zone. Even if just off the plate by a tiny bit most hitters would still swing if it looks like a strike coming in. But he's missing by a lot more often than not.

And when there's a visit to the mound he seems to do worse immediately after. So it's a reverse effect. Which factors in lack of confidence.

It's a different pitching coach this season. But his problems remain the same. A stint in the minors might help with his mechanics, but he will know it's not the majors and probably won't help his confidence coming back up.

He knows that he was supposed to be the ace and obviously can't be happy with how things have turned after his early starts. But it's a long season. I think if he just has a couple of good games in succession he could regain confidence. He's pitched well before and needs to break out of this negative loop. His stuff isn't elite, but it is of major league quality. Especially the difference in speed between his fast and off speed pitches. He needs better location and sequencing. Confidence could help.
