I disagree. I think his age decreases his value enough, that signing him to a 1 or 2 year contract can be very cost effective, and may allow the Angels to trade Canning and Anderson for backup pieces in the outfield and infield.

Ever since Kikuchi was in the NPB, these two have been compared as pitchers representing each league of NPB. Sugano is with the Yomiuri Giants in the Central League, while Kikuchi was with the Saitama Seibu Lions in the Pacific League.

(IMO) Even now it's hard to choose between these two.

Plus if he’s pitching well you could trade him at the 2025 deadline or the 2026 deadline. He won’t cost a comp pick.  No reason not to sign him.

Every one or two year deal for a player has value in not only what they provide on the field but what you can get for them in trade.
