Why?  Because that is debt against the sale of the team, after he is no longer on the team, when he adds no value to the team.  Imagine buying a team and having $680 million of debt accrued for something no longer creating value.

So he was offered 3 Billion last year when he put the Angels up for sale. How much do you think he lost in Value the minute Ohtani left?

Do you even think he touches the 2 billion mark now that Ohtani the Cash Cow is gone ?

Yes, easily...  Its still SoCal, and everyone understands they were a cash cow when they were winning.  I think most people with the capital to purchase a MLB team realize the problem is likely the current owner.

It’s asinine to think the new owner would pay a billion extra dollars for less than one guaranteed season of Shohei under his ownership. Use some common sense.

One of the other things to consider is how baseball uses player salaries as assets and towards their depreciation.  If Ohtani's salary is 2 mil then that's all they can really apply as a cost within those first six/ten years.

We couldn't win with Ohtani on a cheap contract. We weren't winning with him on the contract the Dodgers gave him.

100% this. I don't fault Arte for not matching the contract; it just sucks knowing that the offer was there to match it lol. No guarantee he still would've picked us had Arte said yes BUT I fail to see why at this point; any Angel fan would fault him or hate him for leaving.

We didn't win with him; we weren't going to win with him on this contract. Too many holes to fill.
