I'm wondering if this is a prelude to them becoming full time coaches. It does seem like an awkward situation for the coaches who are already in place.

Vegas. Halo -- perhaps but the way I read this move (Salmon and Finley as 'coach like advisors') is that Tempe Spring Training 2024 begins this week in Anaheim with a line up of minor league players.  There's always. extra 'coach advisors' hanging around the Tempe complex during Spring Training.

There is a big difference between spring training and advisors being in the dugout during the season.

you don't do this if you're comfortable with whatever is going on in your clubhouse.

whether there's a disconnect between Minasian and Nevin or between Nevin and the players, who knows.

The manager is the link between what the front office wants done and how the players execute that process.

Some of the problem could be Perry.  Some of the problem could be several players.  And part of the problem could be that Phil isn't able to get both sides on the same page.

Every take away made above is unsubstantiated speculation.  Do Better.  Gawd the fake news on this site is rampant.

Here is what is much more likely.

You don't do this if your comfortable with the veteran players mentoring the rookies

Whether is absence of the marquee vets, or checked out marquee vets, who knows.

The Manager is responsible for creating a nurturing environment where players are encouraged, and do hold each other accountable.

Some of the problem could be Perry.  Some of the problem could be several players, and part of the solution is that Phil believes having the presence of former Angel stars would benefit the rookies and fill the void left by the lack of leadership of the vets.

I said it at the time -- what in the heck was LaRussa doing getting back behind the bench at 78 - after he had such a stellar career -- he was beloved in Chicago -- when he was Cards manager and then years later when he was out of managing for a bit --  he would get invited to and appear at the White Sox fan fest events.

at the time he took the ChiSox job at age 78 he was working for the ANGELS as a special assistant to the owner. I think that meant he sat in the owner's luxury suite on those wonderful Anaheim evenings sipping beverages and watching the game from the best seat in the house.  He gave that up to go back on the road for 81 games a year -- and within two years it took its toll.

When is the Baseball Operations department going to get some advisors?  Maybe Scioscia and Madden can help?

Bill Stoneman has been an advisor for Baseball Operations since he stepped down.

Clearly, "advising" doesn't help much.

and he's done a horrible job creating an environment that does that.

the players don't seem to be encouraged or hold others accountable.

you act like Trout and Rendon haven't been on winning teams before. They have.

Coming from someone who voted for (4-15 since mid AugBochy) (architect of the Ranger implosion) as pick for Angel manager.  Your opinion is respectfully 86'd.
