Gameday Thread (6/6/23): Angels vs Cubs - Rendon back in the lineup, Renfroe and Neto out

Devenski has filled Moore's role nicely. Should be fun when he's back and they can go lefty/righty as needed.

Interesting how Anderson and Devenski both feature the change up. Anderson just doesn't have enough of a fastball for contrast. And his location has been terrible for stretches. He hung in tonight, but it sure wasn't a 'quality start' by the usual definition.

Smart of Trout and Thais to stay disciplined with the bases loaded. Going up the middle/with the pitch in critical situations is winning baseball.

Some help from Cub defensive mistakes turned the 5 run inning into a big one, but it could have easily been less.

Intrigued by the possibility of Fletcher returning. Hopefully with some confidence. Time will tell, but depth is a positive. Lots of rotational and internal competitive possibilities.

Anderson is 3-1 which proves win/lose record can be deceiving. 5.62 ERA

However, I'd rather have a guy who goes 15-5 with a 5.00 ERA, than a guy who goes 5-15 with a 3.00 ERA. lol Every year, there's at least one starter that pitches great, but the offense NEVER scores runs for some reason. Sometimes there's that guy that gives up a ton of runs, but they score 7 every time he pitches.

Which probably means that guy is getting his starts against the other team’s 5th starters or got the luck of the draw in scheduling

Credit where credit is due, Anderson settled down with better location after the 2nd inning.

Nice to see the Halos battle back from 4 runs down, and much better piece of hitting in the 5th in not swinging for the fences

Devenski’s change up is filthy with great command.   Webb’s is also nasty, but he needs to command it better.

Estevez continues to excel, a little hiccup in the 9th with the two hits but no damage.

Defense was solid.

Now build some sustainable momentum.
