If the best bullpen pieces can't actually pitch two days in a row, then what use are they? If we can't use anybody who is even somewhat reliable on consecutive days, we might as well kiss this season (and Ohtani) good bye. Games like tonight, and Saturday night, and Easter Sunday will be the exception, not the rule. 

 

It doesn't help when (like yesterday), Nevin pulls a starting pitcher, who is actually pitching reasonably well, out of the game early, without letting them pitch out of minor jams.

Exciting but chaotic. ike a drunk company softball game.  What can you say? Especially considering the opposition. So much for a sweep. Now the rest of the series has to be won.

Trout had a couple of chances for key RBIs but couldn't get it done. Still, ten runs wins almost all the time. 

Ugly as it was, the comeback should have been completed. Some nice plays went for naught. And pathetic pitching made the A's look like Murderer's Row. Ragged defense and base running reflect lack of discipline. And questionable coaching. 

Herget with his rubber arm isn't more useful than some of the dreck in the bullpen? And the others with their sensitive arms who have to be babied and protected this early in the season? 

Far too many winnable games already in the lost column.

Let's see.  Loup and Tepera (DL) can't be trusted in the late innings.  Quijada and Estevez can't be either.  Herget's gone.  Wantz doesn't look like the answer.  Nor does Barria.  Tucker is our new 6th Starter.  Suarez can't figure out how to not tip his pitches.  Moore needs to be the lefty bridge to get to the Closer.  Yup.  Step up on up Adam Warren!  Congratulations Adam!  You're our new Closer!

He becomes the long man in the BP since Barria is ready for high leverage situations.  If the Angels release Suarez he will catch on with some team and have an excellent 2nd half.

"Winnable games" is the new AW narrative.

Well, let's be real - every game is winnable.

The team is losing close games. They're still trying to sort out the bullpen pieces and it has cost them some games. I hope they figure it out. That being said - the offense has had chances to pick up the pitchers and they haven't always delivered. 

It's baseball. It's unpredictable.

Three more with Oakland... I still like our chances.

Herget has been hit hard this year and sports a 6.23 era. Chalk it up to reliever volatility; one year the solution, next, the problem.
