Meh. I’m an optimist. It was knee jerk reaction to missing out on Cole, but was also a position we needed to fill. I was just hoping him as a player and his contract wouldn’t go the way of Pujols and Hamilton. It’s been pretty ugly so far and I was hoping he would take off and get back to his high level this year. But getting into it with fans and costing games to the constant injuries. More of a reactionary “unbelievable” opposed to the literal sense.

I honestly don’t quite understand the assumption that signing Rendon was a “knee jerk reaction” to missing out on Cole.

Every team plans for multiple scenarios.  No team ever goes into free agency with one singular plan for one player with no idea what they will do if they fail to get that player.

The consensus was Cole was the best fit because the team desperately needed a beast starter. Once he was gone, there is literally zero chance that pursuing Rendon was just a knee jerk reaction.  They simply pivoted to a contingency plan to address another serious need.

The front end of his contract isn't aging well. These are supposed to be his prime years. That one big season and playoffs in Washington exaggerated his value. A career year likely never to be repeated.

But there is still the possibility of at least bouncing back and playing  a competent third base and hitting somewhat near  his career average. Providing he actually can stay in the lineup long enough to find a rhythm and keep his body relatively healthy.

It's not an assumption. There were many posts and sources posted here that we made the best or one of the best offers to Cole (one that would have had him be the highest paid pitcher in baseball) and he turned it down to play for the Yankees. Reports and people with "sources" were saying Arte headed up this signing to make a splash after missing out and that Arte took the helm like Pujols and Hamilton.

We're on our way, dude.

And less we forget guys like Cozart where we paid to get rid of them. Just brutal.

When you add all the trash up, like the Cowart, wells, Hamilton, etc etc deals, it comes out to like 750 million or something.

Moreno could have literally spent the same money on actual trash, like a dump that he charges people to use, and actually turned a far better profit.
