The Official 2022 World Series Championship Thread: Phillies vs. Astros

What a achizoid series. Now a best of three with Houston having home field advantage.

Home run history yesterday, pitching today.

Astros have momentum, but tomorrow could flip the script.

Fun watching the no hitter in progress. It made the score irrelevant once Houston got the lead. Javier with 72% fastballs, But not elite heat. Movement, deception, location. Should be instructive that pitching is more than power.

Also, credit the three relievers. A different kind of pressure as they kept passing the baton.

Astros had momentum in game 1 up 5-0 but then gave it up?

Phillies had momentum going into game 2 but lose decisively?

Astros had momentum after the big win but then lose it in the first inning the next game?

Phillies had the historic night yesterday but decided to give up the momentum?

Combined no-hitter just not as good as an actual no-hitter.

Yes 100%.  Nobody threw a no-hitter.  A team got no hits against a bunch of different pitchers.  Not the same.

The entire impressive nature of somebody throwing a no-hitter is that they lasted a full game and nobody got a hit against them despite the fact that they got three plate appearances against the same pitcher.

It is a fact that pitchers tire as the game goes on, and it is also a fact that hitters make adjustments against them from at bat to at bat.  This is why throwing a no-hitter is so hard.  You have to get these hitters out for a third time late in the game when you are fatigued.

A combined no-hitter is entirely different.

It’s a novelty that you notice, yes.  But it’s about as impressive as a left fielder getting a homer and a single through half the game and then the replacement left fielder gets a double and a triple.  Combined cycle!!!!!

Yes, the Phillies got no hits and all the Astros pitchers looked good.

But sorry, I can’t talk about a combined no-hitter in the same context as actual one pitcher no-hitters.  One is a novelty and one is special.

Seems like it's feast or famine for the Phillies. Was pretty disappointed to not even see a hit from unsung hero Marsh or pretty boy Harper.

Even with the series tied 2-2 it feels like an uphill battle for the Phillies.

Who pisses their money away on bets like this? Why not just use it as toilet paper so you at least get some use from it?

I guess $100 means a lot more to some people than it means to others.

I'm not a sports gambler, but seems to me throwing $100 at a crazy bet to possibly make $100,000 doesn't seem like pissing away $100, especially with the possibility of making 1000X what you stand to lose.

Thousands of people place far worse bets on the stock market every day, with much much more to lose.

Even though the games seem to have been entertaining, I just can't get into this series for whatever reason.

I've been feeling the same way. For me, I think it might be related to the long layoff between the league championship series and the World Series, combined with the two-day gap due to the rainout. Those factors sapped it of some urgency and momentum.

I watched Central Michigan vs No Illinois, even after I heard Houston had a no-hitter going.

Go Chippewas!

I forgot the game was even on last night until my phone started pinging me with notifications of “no-hitter through 7” and “history in the making”. . .
So I quickly tuned in, but then realized it was a combined no-hitter, rolled my eyes, and went back to the program my wife was watching.
