Dude, there is maybe 16-20 plate appearances for O'Hoppe before the season ends. This isn't about development. It's a close up look see.

It's absolutely about development. He gets a sneak peek at what major league pitching actually looks like and what the lifestyle is off the field and what the clubhouse is. Those are all developed skills.

I certainly hope O'Hoppe spends most of next year in AAA, regardless of his performance, and when he's ready to be called, he's made the undisputed starter (and not splitting time with Stassi). Same with Soto.

Regarding the latter, it's probably the consequence of our atrocious org depth, which hasn't really improved under Minasian. Our two catchers that started the year are both batting like .180, they're probably trying to drum up excitement with O'Hoppe (which IMO is not a justification for rushed promotions).

I think, unfortunately, it just takes time to improve depth.  Minasian took over in the 2020 offseason, and since he hasn't really been enable to engage in a fire sale, the only way to really improve depth is through drafting and developing.  His first draft was in July 2021, using Eppler's farm director, and he just had his first draft in July 2022 with his own hand-picked farm director.

So really, even his first draft class has been with the organization for barely over a year.  I would expect, by next season, we should (hopefully) see more improvement and better player in the minors on the whole.  We have already seen some of that with our AA squad; hopefully, we'll see more of that soon, and that he can in turn build upon that success with next year's draft, too.

O'Hoppe isn't being rushed to the majors. This isn't May or June, it's the last few series of the year. This is more of a reward for excelling beyond expectations in AA and a chance to put on a real Angels jersey and play on his future home field. This isn't some soul crushing grind of continuous pressure to perform.

If he shows he has what it takes in Spring Training then AAA is just repititions with lesser talent. If they see flaws that need time to iron out, Salt Lake is a two hour plane ticket. There is no negatives going on here.

Some players are ready earlier than others. O'Hoppe may be that guy. Regardless, I bought a ticket for tonight's game just to see if they are going to let him play. Should be fun to watch.

I agree.  Same with Soto - there is no pressure on either in this situation.  I think both are likely ticketed to start in AAA next year, but either way, this is great exposure for them.
