Lyman Bostock Story-Podcast

Tom Rinaldi is currently releasing episodes chronicling the Lyman Bostock story.  For those who are old enough to remember that horrific night when he was murdered, the podcast does a great job at telling the story of Lyman Bostock.  I remember him as a great player who chose to sign with the Angels and a man with incredible integrity.  His was a life well lived and I hope the Angels someday remember and honor him.  Link to the podcast below:

Can you imagine any player today offering to give back money to make up for poor performance?

That right there was enough to make me really admire him. They he started raking, and then he picked off Reggie Jackson at first after he made a wide turn.

Just a natural hitter, good defensively, a really well loved teammate, and great person. It makes me sad that we didn’t get to see him play a lot longer.

This podcast is an AWESOME listen of the story of one of the greatest Angels of all time... seriously... I´ve known the story for years, but the color and context Rindaldi provides is exceptional...

And to hear the audio of Carney Lansford talking about his shift to batting third... wow...!

That 1978 team was stacked...

I'll definitely give this a listen.

Thanks for bumping this @SlappyUtilityMIF. I missed it a few years back.

I dropped off after episode two.  I didn’t like Rinaldi’s delivery style.  Good journalism. Don’t like his presentation.  I know how it ends.

Your loss.

I was 19 when Lyman was murdered. News wasn't one of those instantaneous events back then and since Bostock was shot late at night Saturday, we never got the news until Sunday.

That Sunday a bunch of us got together early to wash and wax our cars. It was a ritual we did every other weekend, did the entire detail thing with tooth brushes to clean wax out of the seams and wiped Armor all on everything plastic or rubber. We had just got the soap cleared off when one of the guys went into his house to grab up the Sunday Times and there was the story. Lyman was shot and killed. So was our weekend.

That was the last time we got together to wash cars. It wasn't a spoken thing, we just quit doing it. The Angels fell out of contention and one of the best outfielders I ever saw play was gone forever. It was worse than Adenhardt because I was so young at the time and the senselessness of the world hadn't really entered our lives.

I truly think the Angels would have beaten Baltimore and played in the World Series in 1979 if Bostock was still on the team. And going to the World Series would probably kept Ryan in Anaheim. One event seemed to cause several to take place.
