That's a lot of money he turned down, but he probably just wants to get out of there after the team burned it all down and likely won't be competitive for a long time.

Their team is terrible and their farm is terrible.

That said it would take a FUCKING haul to obtain him in a trade.

The Rangers could probably both afford to pay him and trade for him.  That system has a TON of mid tier prospects plus Letier Jr.  Not sure if the Rangers would be interested, but after their investments in Semien and Saeger you'd think they are looking to open/establish a window.

Mariners are another team that should at least consider it.  They could send Kelenic and Lews plus one of their arms still in the minors or Brash and then throw in filler.  Not sure they are willing to spend that much on one player, but they too are entering a window and an OF with Soto and Rodriguez would be pretty dynamic.

That sounds good.

The Angels should certainly inquire, but we would have to empty part of our Major League roster and our farm to even have a chance.

Names like Adell, Sandoval, Detmers, Marsh, Paris, Bachman, Guzman, et al. would all have to be in the conversation and even then I think we fall woefully short in the quality over quantity conversation.

That kind of trade never makes any sense, emptying your org for one player.

Not just the Marlins, also ask the Vikings (Herschel Walker trade) how that worked for them.

Arte Moreno has to know that if he doesn’t do everything to keep Ohtani, then no other moves will calm Halos fans.

I don’t think Arte gives a shit about Angels fan wants or dis wants.  I do think he very much likes what Ohtani brings to the table.  Money wise.

Ask the Rams about the Ollie Matson trade

He’s about the best bet to live up to a big contract because of his age.
Oh and I’d give Soto $400 million before I give that same $400 million to Ohtani.

now THAT is a hot take. no joke.

you predicate that opinion out of a belief that ohtani is likely to breakdown in one or both aspects of his game, thus reducing his value?

Oh it’s about age and how players perform into their mid 30’s. Also predicated on a longer deal for Soto based on his age.  But I totally understand people won’t agree with it.

maybe if Herschel Walker trade had worked out he wouldn't run for the Senate

And if he can’t pitch or as he ages then he’s worth significantly less than Soto.

First, I do not sign anyone for 400. Most I give is maybe a 4-year deal. I would take four years of Ohtani over 4 years of Soto. I will be curious to see what Nationals get in a Soto trade. If I was Angel GM if not now maybe in winter gauge what an Ohtani trade might bring back. Some team looking for a big bat and ace pitcher get him on 1 year deal.
