It's not like Lorenzen is doing great right now. Missing over the middle of the plate too much, and Detmers has looked really good lately in AAA, so I think it's not a bad thing. 

After the trade deadline, when the Angels deal away Syndergaard, Detmers is coming back to the rotation anyway, and it's worth him taking his lumps this season if it results in Detmers hitting his mid rotation potential sooner rather than later.

He's had one start in AAA. Granted, it was a good one. 14 Ks to 1 BB in 6 innings.

Any idea why he only had the one on 6/29 and nothing since?

Nah, what would have worked best for the Halos is if he turned it around in the next few starts so he has decent trade value.

Lorenzen seems to have caught the virus (suckballitis) that has clearly circulated around the Angels the past couple of months.  Ohtani for the most part seems to have some natural immunity to this horrible virus.  Lorenzen missing a few starts will be alright.

At least injuries like this aren’t hampering a playoff run. Imagine how pissed we’d be if this happened back in early May when it still looked like we were a decent team. Gotta find the silver lining.
