Trade for Kyle Farmer as a start, controlled through 2024, plays solid SS defense and unlike Squid can actually hit.

Yeah I am done with having a zero bat player in the lineup.  It’s tolerable if the rest of the team is raking  and the team is winning.  But this team right now just can’t carry a zero bat player in the lineup.

Trade for Josh Bell Switch hitting 1B / OF and lose Juan Lagares

Good idea hitting wise, but he’s a FA after the season, defensively is meh, and rarely has played corner OF spots.

Need a RHH corner OF who can hit enough and defend decently enough, who’s controlled beyond this season.

Do the job right the first time, aka the off season.
Everything we needed was out there, this is a self inflicted wound casued by artes refusal to go over his defined budget while still over spending on players he wants.
When half you lineup nightly is guys that should not be ml starters, this is what you get.

For real though, what are we going to do now?  We now have multiple pos player spots in needd in addition to the pitching.
Are we going to go make some blockbuster trade to get Castillo/Farmer/Drury for half our farm?  I mean id love it but then wed here all about the sustainable crap again, as if weve sustained anything but loosing.
Its going to take something massive and blockbusterish to right this team, and i dont think weve got the balls for it or are willing to spend the money to make it happen.

Fletcher or others like him should help. Especially if they have speed. Good eye, hits the ball to all fields, doesn't swing for the fences.

But then again, the team rarely scores other than with homers. It's a coaching philosophy issue as well.

Shortstop hasn't been the same since Simmons left. They need someone like him again. A lot of great shortstops around the league.

These pansies only hit homeruns to score runs. They've stopped getting runners in scoring position and when they DO get runners on, they fail.

Great advice?

1. Better base coaches. Too many times the guys are trying to take the extra base and getting thrown out.  Last night , Ward should have NEVER tried to turn that single into a double. The hit was a line drive one hop to the cf'er who threw him out by 30 feet. What in the #%$@ was the base coach smoking when he waved him to 2nd?  Happening too often. Don't go unless you KNOW you can make it. Don't give the opponents stupid outs.

2. Learn how to manufacture runs. Something the team has forgotten how to do since Sosh left.

3 Quit swinging for the fences. Shorten the swing and put the ball in play. Hit  the ball where it's pitched,  Protect the plate with 2 strikes.  NO 3rd STRIKES CALLED.

The irony is that this team has speed (Ward, Trout, Ohtani, Marsh, Wade, Velasquez).   But too many CSs and thrown out on batted balls.

Of course, 1975 taught me that not hitting the ball wastes team speed.

So,etimes a runner gives himself up at second to make sure the throw doesn’t go to the plate so the runner can score.
