Mo wasn't as big a bust as Hamilton, Pujols, or Upton still kind of bad. He did decline significantly as an Angel compared to his Red Sox output, and then lost a whole year to injury before being traded. The Angels ended up spending $32.5M for him for 2 years of play and 3.8 WAR; adjusted for inflation that's about $65-70M.

Didn’t he fall into the railless visitors dugout on the first play of his first game with the Angels, injuring his ankle and never returning to top form?

It feels like Rendon muscled through injury with the Nationals to get a ring during his free-agency year, then got a memo from former Halo busts that he could come here for a big paycheck and be treated like a baby.

It feels like this is really stupid.

Yes, but he put up good numbers, but not Fenway Park numbers, which probably was never going to happen anyway.

He posted a 117 OPS+ as an Angel.

Rendon has posted a 116 OPS+ as an Angel.

Man has the sport changed.

They used to make fun of Fred Lynn when was with the Angels about always being injured. Fred Lynn played in over 80% of the regular season games when he was here, and made 3 All-Star games. Two things it looks like Rendon will never even come close to.

In one of which, he hit a grand slam. I believe that is still the only slam in All-Star history.

Yeah, but I'm not sure how much was that fall and how much was just yet another hot-dog turning 30, with a big contract.

The pitcher that Fred Lynn hit the grand slam off was Atlee Hammaker.  His daughter is married to Yan Gomes.

I feel like AO for posting that bit of trivia...

Hammaker had been the big surprise of the season prior to the game. Looked like he was going to be a real stud. The all star game proved to be his undoing. After the break he didn’t do squat and I believe also injured his arm/shoulder/elbow.
