I didn't love Hail, Caesar but I still really enjoyed it, so I would disagree with Tank, but would definitely see how it would not appeal to a lot of people. I'd say it's more along their farce-type movies like Burn After Reading but with enough weirdness from something like Barton Fink (same era, same fake studio) to throw people off. Would definitely rank among their bottom half, which isn't really a diss with the Coens.

My favorite Coens...made a Top 10 since the Top 7 or 8, I love almost equally

1. Barton Fink

2. Fargo

3. The Big Lebowski

4. Miller's Crossing

5. A Serious Man

6. Inside Llewyn Davis

7. No Country For Old Men

8. O Brother Where Art Thou

9. Raising Arizona

10. Blood Simple

What are your favorite Coen Brothers movies tank?

haven't seen too many of them, so i'll go with

1. fargo

2. raising arizona

3. no country for old men

4. barton fink (have only seen it once and remember not liking it a whole lot; probably need to see it again).

i knew sam was going to disagree with me, and that's fine. i don't hold it against him for having weird tastes in movies.  :o

i tried to watch the big lebowski, but turned the channel after about 15 minutes. didn't like anything about it.

Theres a part in Superbad when Jonah hill is talking about what porn web site he wants to subscribe to, and michael cera is telling him hes not into it because its too shallow, no substance to the porn on tjat site. Jonah hill says "im sorry the f'n coen beothers arent making porn".

Tank likes shallow porn obviously.

The Man Who Wasn't There is one that falls just short of my Top 10 for their movies. Still really like that one a lot, Hudsucker Proxy too.

I don't dislike Ladykillers or Intolerable Cruelty but would definitely be the bottom 2 of the Coen's for me. True Grit and Burn After Reading would be down there as well but I feel it might be time to give those another shot since I've only seen them once in theater when they came out.

If I finished up the ranking of all their movies, it would be:

11. The Man Who Wasn't There

12. The Hudsucker Proxy

13. Hail, Caesar!

14. Burn After Reading

15. True Grit

16. Intolerable Cruelty

17. The Ladykillers

I'm a fan of the Alec Guinness original Ladykillers, that might be what hurts the Coens remake for me.

Here's my Coen Brothers ranking. I like all of their movies. I rank them based on rewatchability. I've seen Lebowski probably 50 times or more. On the other end of the spectrum, I watched True Grit again not too long ago and wasn't so impressed.

1. The Big Lebowski
2. Fargo
3. Raising Arizona
4. No Country For Old Men
5. The Hudsucker Proxy
6. Inside Llewyn Davis
7. The Man Who Wasn't There
8. A Serious Man
9. The Ladykillers
10. O Brother Where Art Thou
11. Burn After Reading
12. Barton Fink
13. Hail, Caesar!
14. Miller's Crossing
15. Blood Simple
16. Intolerable Cruelty
17. True Grit

latest episode of downton abbey.

sucks that its the final season.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I've seen the whole season and the final episode, the Christmas Special.

It was a little sad that it was 'The End' but it had pretty much run it's course, and it was time to wrap it...which they did....well.

What an excellent series.

Reading your list, I must not like the Coen Brothers very much.  Because I think I've only seen a handful of those movies, and none of them stuck out.

Yeah, every person has different taste. I would categorize a large portion of their movies as modern classics.

Same here. My 1-8 ranking would be in strong consideration for some of my favorite movies of all-time in general. And then the rest outside of the bottom few, I like a lot and come back to and re-watch often. Their style, sense of humor, dialogue, meticulously constructed chaos of a lot of their movies just completely aligns with my sensibilities.
