American Sniper.  Very entertaining film.  Not so much the action, but just the story and character development.

And for once the other actors were right.  It's down right criminal that Bradley Cooper did not get any preliminary awards show love.  He absolutely killed it.  And his physical transformation for the role was amazing.  Didn't recognize him one bit.  Would not be surprised if he wins an Oscar, it was that good of a performance.

I liked it better than Birdman, and wish it were getting as much awards season buzz.  Oh well.

Whiplash was fascinating. I was talking with a guy who is a professional musician a couple weeks ago and told him about Whiplash, and he said his high school band teacher was similar to the J.K. Simmons character in the film. He said his HS band teacher would throw stuff at students, emotionally manipulate them, etc. I'm sure not nearly to the extent of the character in the movie, but there's definitely some truth to the fiction.

GoT is spectacular.  Boardwalk Empire was also spectacular the first three seasons until it just absolutely fell apart into garbage.  Can't think of another show that went from great to awful like BE did.

Kept me hooked till the end.   <_<

Also thought the finale was solid.

It could've been so much better.

Clint Eastwood had so much to work with.

American Sniper - 6.8/10

I don't feel right giving it a 7, but it wasn't bad. I agree with the shared sentiments above that it could have been so much more. It was lazy film making from Clint Eastwood. Bradley Cooper was phenomenal in the film, as was Sienna Miller. I wish they would have focused more on the toll it took on his family instead of just showing a scene and expecting the viewer to completely connect with it. I wish they would have focused some on the children growing up with their father being over seas, but they didn't.

Like Poozy said...it could have been so much more. It wasn't bad and I definitely will buy it when it comes out, but it could have been Saving Private Ryan good. Instead, its a tick below Lone Survivor for me.

"lazy film making" describes it perfectly. i didn't find the dramatic moments in any way dramatic. it was too predictable - guy meets perfect girl...gets perfect girl...goes away to to fight for his country...comes home a changed man...relationship suffers...

didn't see that coming at all
