Wasn't too long ago that they had the first Wild Card, they've really struggled as of lately and want to try to save their season.  Same circumstances behind us firing Maddon, except their situation is much less dire.

One of the few things I'm looking forward to remaining in this season is the thread that will be started when the Angels go to Toronto next month have to place all their unvaccinated on the restricted list, and the inevitable shit show that will ensue
