Economic woes hit Disney as company announces major cuts

The Walt Disney Company announced Wednesday it is trimming its payroll by some 7,000 employees, becoming the latest major firm to cut jobs as economic uncertainty weighs.

The Mouse House said the move is part of a major restructuring aimed at saving the company billions of dollars, and was announced by CEO Bob Iger during the company's first-quarter earnings call.

These jerks at the top are trimming the fat to save nothing. I am blown away by how stupid they are.

People that visit want Cast Members around, there's no reason to cut 7,000 employees who get $20 per hour to be out in the park walking around, cleaning and making the park better. They are such a cheap resource and they give it their all.

When I play golf they don't lock me out of the more popular tee boxes. I don't have to use an app to get permission to use the putting green.

Not very often I agree with Blarg but it's horseshit the way the park operates now...it's unacceptable.

I went with my buddies back in September because there was a girl who knew all the perks and runarounds with the app to get in line for rides...without that there's no way I'd show up and deal with the BS.

Buy a ticket to get in the park, you should be able to wait in line without an app.

i find it a bit odd that a movie that wasn't a huge hit is getting it's own specialty area inside the park. while it was a good movie, it wasn't on the same level as Up, Cars, or Toy Story.

Big Hero 6 is a pretty popular IP, and it allows them to keep all of the restaurants in PW while still fitting in thematically

From what I saw in Orlando last October, Mouse House is raking in more cash than they can stand.

I can’t imagine any possible way for them to make an “Up” attraction that isn’t either a complete downer or not-faithful to the themes of the film. It just doesn’t seem like a concept that would give birth to the emotions most people want to feel and Disney wants to provide in their parks.

It is, however, a beautiful film with what is arguably the best opening 10 minutes of any movie thus far this century.

Toy Story has its own land at Disney World. And Cars already has a land at California Adventure, right next to where the Big Hero 6 area is going.
