He had a strange amateur career.  Drafted out of HS, didn't sign.  Went to Arizona, then transferred to Cypress College after one year.  Drafted out of Cypress, didn't sign. Transferred to University of Houston for one year, got drafted, didn't sign. Transferred to Embry-Riddle for one year, got drafted, finally signed.  Four different teams drafted him.

why do you suppose he kept refusing to sign? i'd guess he felt he was either being low-balled and felt he deserved more, or else he might have wanted a college experience. but if he wanted a college experience, it's weird that he went to three different schools.

i'm immediately concerned that this guy is a head case or else he greatly over-estimates his own value.

Not sure what the circumstances might have been.  I just can't remember seeing anyone else with that much of a history of hopping around.  His draft round went from 24th after HS to 38th, 14th, and 9th the three times he was drafted during college.  So I guess he DID improve his draft status--but it took him 4 years and he still only went in the 9th round--and he got a whopping $5K bonus.

EDIT: Oh, and he went to FOUR different colleges, not three.

That way, he can tap into 4 different alumni networks for his job after baseball
