In all honesty, that is one of the coolest environmental events captured on video in a long time.

I love how the National Weather Service issues a tsunami warning and nearly every place on the planet heads for higher ground, except in Southern California where dipshits head to the jetties near the Wedge to see if they can get swept out to sea.

Our department oversees the LA County Lifeguards.  They are part of the “fire department” but they run their own show and they are in charge of the ocean.

We have pulled many people (99% homeless folk) from the rain swollen San Gabriel and Rio Hondo rivers.  When I was younger, I worked on our Air Squad, and we did a lot of hoist rescues which were way safer than shore based rescues.  Now, with Sea Doo’s and Zodiac boats, us along with LA City Fire, use those quite a bit.  Way faster and no need to worry about over head visibility. But those rescues are handled by our Swift Water Rescue teams or our USAR teams, of which I no longer do.
