I don't think he's a closer or the set-up guy. He's just a good bullpen arm. Which is encouraging. I think it means they're focusing on the pen just as much as the rotation. 

Sure, might mean they pass on Iglesias, or that Syndergaard could be our most expensive SP added dollar-wise, but I personally think it's better they add 3-5 good arms rather than 2-3 real expensive ones.

Worth noting Loup also comes from the days when Minasian was in Toronto, just like Syndergaard. 

And also Stroman and DeSclafani.

Honestly, I'd be thrilled if our winter was Syndergaard, Stroman, DeSclafani, Loup, and Iglesias or another closer.

Instead of a left-handed Scot Shields how about Scott Downs? Dude was absolutely nails during his brief time with the Angels.

In all seriousness, it's a really good add. I just hope it's not a move made not made to replace Iglesias or another closer, just an addition to the pen.

It's also pretty expensive. We're basically at $30m committed already of the expected $50m, with 1-2 SP, CL, a RP, and a back-up C at the minimum still needed.  

Arte's spending this winter, or we're about to see a bunch of prospects traded, or we're going to see Thor as our #1 and Loup closing games.

Btw, given that Loup got $7.5M/year, are there still folks on this board who think Raisel is going to take a deal that gives him $10-12M in the first year of his deal?
