MLB Trade Rumors: Angels need more than just new pitchers to improve their pitching staff

I wouldn't mind signing Iglesias for next year and using the savings toward pitching and an Ohtani extension. They showed Iglesias' defensive splits on a recent broadcast. Most of his defensive woes occurred at the beginning of the season and he's been solid thereafter. His bat is decent and he seems like a good clubhouse guy.

Most of those errors early in the season wouldn't have been errors if Albert wasn't playing 1B, IMO....  Although Iglesias was charged with the errors a good first baseman would have handled some of those throws...

I'd be fine with the Angels re-signing Iglesias.

If you can't utilize your shifts properly, your defense is going to suffer.

And or not over using the over shift! Ex. the other day when Detmers was pitching. Over shift instead of just regular double play depth went from a awkward single up the middle off the mound (and Fletcher having to react going one way. Then if he was gliding that way any way to the ball on a cross over. (Yeah this is a breakdown of the positioning and fielding)...

Another issue with the over-shift alignment is if your young arms don't hit their spot or the catcher is setup incorrectly and or the pitch is thrown inaccurately (turning the change up over from a lefty instead of running it inside to a right handed hitter). You have basically over thought (micromanaged) your way out of the situation on the field.

The one main issue is the amount of range he has at SS.

Concur that having a 1B who can handle a little off throws would have benefitted Iglesias those first 1-2 months.

He does have the rep for handling pretty much all of the normal plays and a solid arm.   Has only 3 errors in past 65 starts.
