there was just something poetic and beautiful about his windup. all of my friends and i tried to imitate it, but without success. 

as a footnote, this era for oakland uniforms was far and away their best.

Vida was one of the coolest visiting players at the Big A when I was a kid. He’d engage us and even toss some balls into the stands when that wasn’t a thing yet. Starters on off days have idle time.

Among the books purchased were Ball Four, and Vida His own words.

If I remember correctly he was ambidextrous but was a better left handed pitcher.

When I started watching football as a kid, my favorite player was Joe Kapp.  Watching him play football made me an instant Vikings fan.  Well, Ol' Joe passed away at 85 years of age.

Felt like he was on declining health for many years, so it’s not a shock. But seeing the outpouring of people he affected or touched and his part in the growth of the game was maybe something I just took for granted. 
 

I’ve been watching or reading so much on him today and there were a ton of great tributes to Texas Dolly. Knew a lot of it watching him for about 20 years, but the stories are legendary.
