Didn't Kevin Jepsen allegedly have a high spin rate?

i don't remember it being discussed. all i know is that the ball was coming out of his hand well.

maybe that was sosh-speak for "yeah, this mofo is loaded with all kinds of goo you don't know about."

I read somewhere, it might have been here, that Rawlings sent pre “sticky” baseballs to MLB to test.  The test came back as they didn’t stay “sticky” long enough.  How long do they have to stay sticky?  The average baseball lasts like 7 pitches.  If the ball really is as slick as we have heard, I would think there is something MLB/Rawlings can do about it.  I would start with something really simple like the starting pitchers for each team must approve of the balls being used that game.  Both pitchers agree on each ball or it can’t be used.

If what he says is indeed true, that MLB don't provide AAA (the production line of talent that feeds MLB) with the same balls to play with as they have in the big leagues - and that there is a major difference between the type of balls used, then that truly is the dumbest idea I've heard of in baseball. The cost - reward ratio doesn't add up on that decision one bit. I don't know any other sport where that happens.

Well starting in 2019 AAA started using the same baseballs as MLB.  It was one of the reasons MLB gave as the reason the balls were flying out of the ball park.  They believe that having to produce more baseballs impacted the quality of the baseball that went out.  Something about them not having the same amount of time to dry out.

Sticky baseballs, steroids, Astros cheating, shifts, launch angles, spin rates, velocity of balls being hit, speed of pitches, length of games, so many teams in rebuild mode. The game has changed and is just not as much fun as it used to be. I miss my transistor radio and reading box scores in the morning paper.
