Gameday Thread 6/9/13 vs Red Sox

I remember being amazed at the way he could drive the ball the other way when he was a Ranger.  He doesn't do that anymore.  It's a lefty version of Pujols circa April and May 2012.  Don't know why this hasn't been addressed yet.

There was a piece on BP about this(and the Angels struggles in general) about a few weeks ago. Hamilton hasn't really been much different from last year when it comes to the amount of pitches he swings at, his O-swing % etc is all similar. The main difference for him this year is he simply isn't driving the ball the other way with as much authority as he used to. It could either just be a coincidence in the early going or it could be a sign that his skills are in fact diminishing. If it is the ladder, then obviously this team just got another Vernon Wells contract on the books for 4 more years

The ballpark factor may honestly be impacting these guys mentally.  In Arlington (and Toronto) you don't have to swing hard to get the ball out of those parks.  At Angel Stadium, it takes a harder hit ball to get it up and out.  We've seen it with Wells, Albert, and now Hamilton.  These guys start trying to muscle up and come out of their swings trying to hit homeruns.  You'd think by this point the Angels or these players would start to figure this out and go back to a smaller approach, but then again, this is the Angels we're talking about.
