same. i found it extremely weird when i started seeing kids wearing helmets to ride their bikes or skateboards. it seemed like they had way overprotective parents, and we all thought they were wimps.

I think the helmet and seat belt thing was instigated by insurance companies but it did catch on pretty easily. To this day I don't wear a helmet on a bike but I don't drive until everyone is buckled in
