It is no longer a State or Federal standard to teach cursive since 2010 with the adoption of common core. It is up to individual school districts to determine if it is taught. The computer has basically removed the pencil and pen from most schools.

my school still teaches handwriting in third grade, but it's a rare thing to see kids in my classes who actually use it these days. 

i still use it when i write on the board or write notes on assignments to them.
